In short: every GST-registered business in Assam must file its returns on time, even in months with no sales. The two returns that most regular taxpayers file are GSTR-1, which reports your sales, and GSTR-3B, which summarises your sales and purchases and is used to pay the tax. Missing them leads to late fees, interest on unpaid tax and, if it continues, blocked e-way bills and cancellation of your registration.
Assam's economy runs on a wide mix of businesses: tea producers and traders, oil and petroleum suppliers, plywood and timber units, handloom and handicraft sellers, wholesalers in Guwahati and the Barak Valley, and a growing number of online sellers. Whatever you sell, the filing rules are the same across the state, and a GSTIN comes with a duty to file every period. If you are not registered yet, start with our page on fast GST registration for new businesses, and read GST basics for small businesses to see whether you need to register.
| Return | What it reports | Usual due date |
|---|---|---|
| GSTR-1 | Details of outward supplies, meaning your sales invoices, credit notes and debit notes. | 11th of the next month for monthly filers. 13th of the month after the quarter for quarterly filers. |
| GSTR-3B | Summary of sales, input tax credit claimed and tax payable, along with the tax payment. | 20th of the next month for monthly filers. Quarterly filers pay on the 22nd or 24th, depending on the state category. |
| GSTR-9 | Annual return summarising the full year. Not part of the monthly plans above. | Generally 31 December after the financial year. |
Note: due dates are notified by the government and are sometimes extended, so confirm the current date before you file. Taxpayers under the composition scheme file different forms (CMP-08 and GSTR-4), which our plans above do not cover.
Small taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to ₹5 crore can opt for the quarterly return and monthly payment scheme, known as QRMP. You still pay tax every month, but file GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B once a quarter. Our experts help you decide which option suits your invoice volume, since monthly filing keeps your Input Tax Credit up to date faster.
If you have pending returns from earlier months, message us on WhatsApp and we will plan how to clear them in order. Late fees and interest amounts are set by notification and can change.
Keep your GST registration certificate handy, and for the detailed filing process see our guide to monthly GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filing.

Our experts prepare GSTR-1, match purchases with GSTR-2B and work out your GSTR-3B tax liability and eligible credit.
You review the summary and pay the tax shown, then we file both returns before the due date.
You get the filing acknowledgements for your records, and the same cycle repeats until your plan ends.
More than 50,000 customers across India use us for registration and compliance. Because we work fully online, a business in Dibrugarh, Jorhat or Silchar gets the same expert-assisted filing as one in Guwahati, without visiting an office. We reconcile purchases against GSTR-2B before claiming credit, which is where many small businesses either overclaim or miss credit they are entitled to. The plans are priced as one-time payments for 3, 6 or 12 months, so you know your filing cost in advance.

Yes. A registered taxpayer must still file a nil return for periods with no business activity. Skipping it attracts a late fee and can affect your compliance record.
GSTR-1 lists your outward supplies invoice by invoice, while GSTR-3B is a summary return in which you declare total sales, claim input tax credit and pay the tax due.
A late fee is charged for every day a return is delayed, with a lower amount for nil returns and an upper limit set by the rules. Interest at 18% a year is also charged on tax paid late. Amounts are set by notification and can change.
